How to use Winrar

Installing Winrar

First of all you need winrar you can download it here : Winrar version 3.20 or go to the winrar site
to download it there.

You need to double click the winrar320.exe file to install winrar.
The following screen will appear :

Now click on install, winrar will be installed after that you will get the following screen

You can associate winrar with more that only rar files, this means that winrar will startup when you click a rar file if you associated (marked the checkbox) rar.
You can also let the setup create extra icons on your desktop and in the start menu.
When you are done click ok and the next sreen click done.

Extracting a rar file

In the screen above you see a rar file, a winrar file is a file that can contain one or more files/directory's.
A rar file uses a compression methode to save space, sometimes a rar file is splitted in more peaces than one.
Now we are going to extract the files that are in the rar.
Double click on the rar file you want to extract.
You will get the following screen.

Now click on the icon "Extract To" or press "ALT+E"
The following screen will appear just click "Ok"

Now your files are extracted and ready to use.

Compress files to a rar file

Let's say we want to send a big file to someone alse on the internet but don't want to send a one file of 600 MB
or you're friend only has an email box that can hold a maximum of 10 MB and the file you want to send is bigger.
Open winrar and go to the directory where you have the file(s) you want to compress.

Select the file(s)/directory('s) you want to add to your rar file.
The file(s)/directory('s) will be blue when selected

Now click the icon "Add" or press "ALT+A"
The archief name is the name of the rar file where the selected files will be in.
You can change the compress method from : store, fastest, fast, normal, good, best.
Store is minimum compression and best is maximum compression but it will take longer to compress/extract.
Im going to make the rar files 5MB large.
1MB=1000000
5MB=5000000
10MB=10000000
100MB=100000000

Now click "Ok" and the files will be compressed and added to the rar file.
Now you can send each part of you're rar file to somebody over the internet.
