How to use Quickpar
What is Quickpar
Quickpar is a file restoring program used for newsgroups.
When you download an corrupted files and in the same group par/par2 files are posted under the same title
you can download those to fix your correpted files.
So that the poster doesn't need to repost a whole file but only par files
You can also use it to verify if files are corrupted.
Installing Quickpar
First of all you need quickpar you can download it here : Quickpar version 7.5 nl or go to the quickpar site
to download it there.
You need to double click the QuickPar-0.9.1.0-NLD.exe file and install it.
This part was written for version 7.5 of quickpar
Double click the Quickpar.exe file.
The following screen will appear.
You can associate quickpar with par and par2 files.
It is recommended to associate quickpar with both the file types.
Now click the "Ok" button
Use Quickpar to verify/repair files
Go to the directory where you have you're downloaded files including the par files.
You will see a screen that looks like this.
Click one of the par files.
You will get a screen from quickpar and quickpar will start to check if there are files that are corrupted/missing/incomplete.
If you have enough par files you can click repear and quickpar will repear the files that are corrupted/missing/incomplete.
Making (extra) Par files
Sometimes you will get the following screen when you want quickpar to repair you're files.
You see that you need 7 more blocks before you can repair the files.
In that case you can ask to poster in newsgroups or sender of the file to make extra par blocks.
When you're submitting a file on the internet you can also submit extra par files so that other people can repair corrupted/missing/incomplete files.
Open quickpar and click on the button "Add Files" and select all the files you need.
The screen will look like this after selecting the files.
very important "first recovery block number" must be changed so that you are not creating the same par files again.

You now can click the button "create" or adjust some settings.
*The setting redundancy can be used to change the amount of blocks that will be created
*The setting number of recovery files can be changed to make more/less par files (recommended is to make more par files).
*The setting make all recovery files of the same size is used so that all the par files have about the same size.
If all the settings are ok for you than click "create" to make the par files.
